Who we are
Welcome! Mindful Phoenix is a place for you to explore mental health topics. We discuss mental illness, everyday stressors, neurodevelopmental conditions, and how these topics overlap.
Looking for casual, easy-to-read content? Take a look at the Mindful Phoenix blog. Want something a little more academic? The articles section has what you’re looking for. We also have something called guidebooks, which provide even more information for those who want to take a deep dive.
Who is Lynn Seymour?
I’m Lynn Seymour (she/her), the writer behind Mindful Phoenix. I’ve always been interested in the brain, psychology, and mental health. I have nearly a decade’s worth of professional writing experience, though I’ve been writing for fun since I was a kid.
It is important to note that I am not a doctor, nor am I a mental health professional. I do not offer medical advice.
I am, however, an autistic woman with ADHD, depression, and anxiety. I write about these topics from a place of personal experience. When it comes to other mental health topics that I do not experience myself, I commit to prioritizing the perspectives of those who do experience them.
The Mindful Phoenix Story
Mindful Phoenix was born from a desire to help people. It was also born from spite.
For about two years, I wrote addiction-related content for a drug and alcohol treatment program. I loved that job. And I’ll always appreciate what I learned from it — especially about addiction and how the brain works.
However, this program paid less than the average rate for beginners, let alone for experienced writers covering such an important topic.
When I asked for a raise, the CFO turned me down due to “budget constraints.” (The average CFO salary, by the way, is more than $440,000 per year.)
I quit immediately. I couldn’t stand the idea of my words and my ideas making this person any more money, all while I made pennies. Why should I struggle to pay for rent and groceries while somebody else got rich off of my work?
I still wanted to write content that would help people though, and that’s how Mindful Phoenix came to be. I kept writing about addiction, but I expanded my content to include other mental wellness topics.
No matter how you found Mindful Phoenix, I’m so grateful that you’re here. Feel free to make yourself comfortable. I hope that you enjoy your stay!
